Music Review

It took my far too long to decide what group or even genre of music I would do it on. I ended up looking through some of my CD's and found some of my old Polish rap and hip hop CD's. I'm not sure exactly why I decided to review this genre, but I guess I'll go ahead and do so. I'm going to review three of my favorite Polish hip hop groups.

One of the groups is called Trzeci Wymiar, where my uncle is one of the members of the group. They have a pretty unique style from my point of view. Their songs all have very deep meaning, especially to someone who has heard the stories of where the song topics came from. The group's lyrical composition comes from Szad and Nullo, who were close friends since they were young. I'll post two links, the first "Wuuf", one of their newer songs, and "Zapomni O Tym" one that was inspired solely by my uncle.

The next group is called Piec Dwa, sometimes called 52 Debiec or 5-2. This group was also formed roughly the same time as Trzeci Wymiar, and one can see similarity within the styles of the two groups. Most of 5-2's songs lyrics are driven in a more angry direction than most other Polish hip hop artists, which gives them a sort of uniqueness. The link I post is to "Gniew" which is personally one of my favorites.

The last group is called WWO, which was also founded the same time the first two groups were, 1999. They are a very prominent group, taking more of their roots from German hip hop than other Polish groups. They have a pretty cool sound, some killer beats, and a fantastic rhythm. This is "Tak To Wyglada", one of my favorites by WWO.

This must mean something!

Do you ever come across those things that you seem like they serve a bigger purpose than just what it is interpreted to be?

I believe that everything that happens, happens for a reason. Perhaps even little things such as who you spend you Saturday night with can change your life. Or maybe perhaps because I had just barely passed my classes, someone somewhere is telling me I should try college? Maybe someone is trying to tell me I'm not dedicated enough to excel in college?

Nobody knows for sure why some things happen, so it is up to us to find out for ourselves. Like at a Chinese buffet, the fountains seem like they are just there for display, when actually they play a larger part in Fengshui!

Dear Mr. Cormac McCarthy,

I have just finished reading your book The Road, and also watched the movie adaptation of it. I have to say that I enjoyed it very much. I think that you did a good job in showing how people would act when it came down to a disaster like this. The people with families would probably keep holding on to the ones they love so dearly, and the ones who just wanted to survive would do anything just to do so.

I, however, did not enjoy the lack of punctuation. It made the read a little more difficult than is should have been. It was a unique read, but it cause much unwanted confusion. However, I would completely agree with your view on what the world would look like when an apocalypse would occur. In is in our human nature to fight for survival, and most people would do so, whether it was for a family or just for one's self.

All in all, your descriptions were very detailed and once I got past the lack of punctuation, I enjoyed The Road very much.

Sincerely,
Greg Stech

Is the unexamined life worth living?

"The unexamined life is not worth living." Socrates, Apology 3a

Socrates's quote gives us a lot to thing about. Is the unexamined life truly worth living? I, personally, believe so. I do, however, believe that the examined life is more fulfilling.

Plenty of people can be happy by simply living their lives, but it is only those who consider what they have done that are truly living. You can go on and live a completely fulfilling life by not examining what you do, but you miss so much this way. So things happen to you left and right, but do you know why? These are some of the "problems" with living an unexamined life.

Now sure an examined life may be more demanding, both physically and emotionally, but in the end, it is more rewarding. This way, you at least receive the chance to go ahead and understand what is happening in the world around you, and why. Perhaps I am biased, but I believe examination is the path to enlightenment. So ask yourself, why live with tunnel vision, when you can be doing so much more?

Eulogy of Greg Stech

Greg Stech, son, brother, student, and friend, taken from us sooner than expected.

He was born on August 30th, 1993 at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. Being the first child, he received plenty of attention from his parents. As a child, he played tennis, basketball, and his favorite, soccer. Aside from playing sports, his parents enrolled him in a piano class, where he learned to play the piano.

Throughout his life, he was a very enthusiastic person. He enjoyed helping his friends, and always helped when his family needed him. In return, he expected his family to be there in return. He spent a lot of time with his family, going on vacations both in and out of the country. He loved to visit all of his family in Poland, and also the other countries of Europe. His most exciting adventure was just this past year, when he saw old Roman structures, one of the things he was most passionate about. He always wanted to learn more things, perhaps one of the reasons he wanted to go into the field of education.

He was loved by all of those around him, and will not be easily forgotten.
